In P 2/3 we are taught by Mrs Neilly and Mrs Small. Our Classroom Assistant is Angela. We have a busy year ahead and lots to learn!

Our first term in Primary 2/3 has been so much fun already!

This year, in World Around Us our first topic is all about space! What a fun and exciting topic all about the different planets, parts of a rocket ship, the jobs of astronauts and how to travel to space.

We have also:

• Made rocket ships.
• Created our own planets. 
• Built a rocket ship for astronauts using junk modelling. 
• Created our own space suits. 
• Baked rock buns.
• Designed moon masterpieces.
• Experimented with balloon rockets.
• Explored with a telescope. 
• Researched the jobs of astronauts.
• Researched how to travel to space.
• Role played a space station. 

 In Numeracy, we have been learning all about numbers 0-20. We love to practice our numbers using a variety of engaging activities. This helps us to remember how to form our numbers correctly and understand place value.

We have been:

• Writing our numbers with shaving foam.
• Counting our numbers using blocks.
• Learning all about numbers through iPad games.
• Counting using different songs and actions. 
• Using the numicon to help us show addition calculations.

We have also been learning how to name and recognise 2D shapes (P2), 3D shapes (P3), how to solve addition and subtraction calculations, pattern and name and recognise different coins.

In Phonics, we have been revising all our sounds from Primary 1 and also learning some new digraphs. These include the qu, th, ch and sh phonemes. We have then been applying our knowledge to segment and blend words with these phonemes in. We have also been using our mnemonics to help us form our graphemes correctly. 

In Literacy, we have been learning all about the alphabet, alphabetical order, labels, captions and the correct puncutation for a sentence. We have also enjoyed learning all about instructions and the different features of instructions. We had a fantastic time using instructions to make different sandwiches and directions from the classroom to the hall.
